Ten Accounting AI Uses Worth Testing Carefully
Clienter Team
AI is a broad label. A firm gets a better decision by naming the task and the check that follows it. The ten ideas below are candidates to test, not guaranteed benefits or claims that one product performs all of them.
- Search scanned text. Use OCR to find words in a document; compare the result with the original scan, especially names and numbers.
- Extract invoice fields. Test supplier, date and amount across varied layouts; a reviewer approves values before posting.
- Group documents. Suggest a client or period; a person resolves ambiguous and misfiled items.
- Summarize correspondence. Produce a first-pass history; check decisions and changed deadlines against the original messages.
- Flag unusual entries. Investigate why a record is unusual; a flag alone is not evidence of fraud.
- Prepare a checklist. Suggest missing inputs for a known service; compare it with current professional requirements and the agreed scope.
- Find internal guidance. Search an approved knowledge base; confirm the version and applicability before using it.
- Draft a client update. Have the service owner verify facts, tone and confidential content before sending.
- Compare scenarios. State the assumptions, sources and limitations; do not turn a forecast into an investment recommendation.
- Identify overdue work. Surface tasks for a human owner to review; a due-date alert cannot resolve a blocked engagement by itself.
For a pilot, choose one or two items. Collect normal and difficult examples, decide what “good enough” means, and document the reviewer. If the tool saves a step but creates harder-to-find errors, the firm may be worse off. The NIST AI Risk Management Framework emphasizes evaluating reliability and risk in context. Adobe's OCR instructions explicitly call for review after recognition.
Illustrative example: a team asks a tool to summarize a client thread. It correctly lists two requests but misses a later instruction that changes the deadline. The owner corrects the summary and keeps the original message linked. The test identifies a safe review step before any wider use.
No tool in this list guarantees accuracy, compliance, cost savings or staff reduction. Clienter publicly describes service workflows and AI-assisted information finding; explore its current scope and ask for a demonstration of the exact task you want to test.
